Helping Low Income Students Reach Their Potential

Access College Consulting Works Individually with Students

University of Washington in St. Louis

You want to go to college but don’t know all of your options. You may think you can only afford a community college or a local state school. Strong academic performance, leadership roles in clubs and sports, responsibilities to after-school jobs and family are all experiences that selective colleges with high graduation rates want to see. These colleges may offer significant financial aid to qualified students to make affordability possible.

Access College Consulting learns about each of our students’ unique interests and experiences and recommends a list schools to explore that are a good fit academically, socially and financially.

College Guidance Varies from High School to High School

We understand that college guidance can vary dramatically from high school to high school, even within a school district.  Hard-working School Guidance Counselors manage the academic, social and emotional health of 200, 300, even 400+ students each year.  They are an important resource for navigating post-secondary school options, but many students have more questions than their counselors have time to answer.  Families of students who are the first in their family to go to college may be supportive, but they may not have the knowledge to answer questions either.  That’s where Access College Consulting comes in.

What Are Your Options?

While some families hire private college consultants to supplement the guidance their children receive in high school, many families cannot afford the average $200/hour price tag.

All students, no matter their economic situation, deserve access to high quality college counseling.

About Leslie Silvers, Founder and Lead Consultant

Leslie Silvers, Owner & Lead Consultant

After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Duke University, my first career was in advertising, where I developed strategies and campaigns for clients ranging from national consumer brands to local non-profits. I served as an Alumni Interviewer for Duke University for 20 years, including chair of the New York City and Central Connecticut committees.

I have always had a passion for education. When my two boys went off to college, I decided to pursue a second career in the area of college admissions. I worked at Hartford Promise, a non-profit College Scholarship and College Success Program for Hartford public school students. As I met with students and listened to their questions about college, I saw a need for access to individual college guidance. I saw an opportunity to start Access College Consulting that could be a resource for academically motivated, first generation and low-income students who needed access to individual college advising. I went back to school and earned a Certificate in College Counseling with Distinction from UCLA. I completed my practicum at Pathways Academy of Technology and Design in East Hartford where I helped high school seniors build their college lists, fill out the Common Application, and write their college essays.

When I was working in advertising, I helped my clients differentiate their brands so they would resonate with consumers. I use a similar approach working with students. You have a unique story. You have overcome many obstacles.  Your hard work and persistence have gotten you here.  When applying to college, you have to share your story.  That’s what differentiates you.  That’s what helps YOU STAND OUT among thousands of qualified applicants. At Access College Consulting, we will help you not only learn how to prepare for college in middle and high school, but also realize how much you have to offer and how to showcase your talent in your college application.

Access College Consulting does not guarantee acceptance to any specific college or university. The student is fully responsible for the application and, with the application, is the only person who can influence a college’s or university’s decision. Access College Consulting does not accept any payments from parents or guardians in exchange for acceptance to a college or university, nor will ACC recommend parents or guardians pay a college or university during the application process in exchange for acceptance to the college or university.
